In Saami culture, the bear had a unique position. The Saami believed that the bear could understand and think like a person it was considered to have supernatural powers. But its strength also caused fear and respect among people.
Today, the bear is instead a perfect symbol for a soft cuddly toy. Our bear Munandi fits well with that description. Munandi means friend in bemba. Our bear and its dress are made from ethically produced cotton yarn. The toy is designed in Sweden and created by hand by women in Zambia. Your purchase provides a much-needed income for the woman who has made it.

No 2 toys the same
We always strive to be as true to the original design as possible. With that said, you can not find two Yawama toys precisely the same. It is part of the charm of buying handmade. Some animals are longer, shorter, rounder or slimmer than the toy you saw in the picture. However, we promise that every toy has its charm and the same high quality. Yawama animals are as unique as the women who produce them.
Each soft toy is approximately 27cm from head to feet.
